EYFS Intent
At St Anthony’s our EYFS curriculum encourages all children to grow into confident, happy, independent children, who have been nurtured by adults to develop necessary skills, knowledge and attitudes to achieve fulfilling lives.
Whilst working in partnership with parents, we will:
- Promote independence, perseverance and the confidence to ‘have a go’.
- Develop social skills, friendships and fundamental bonds.
- Provide a safe, secure and loving environment for young children to develop, learn and explore.
Therefore, our intent is to secure solid foundations and to challenge individual talents by offering a range of opportunities to support children’s holistic development.
Implementation
At St Anthony’s the Early Years Foundation Stage celebrates Tiny Ants (2 year olds), Nursery and Reception. Our curriculum is designed to meet the individual needs of our children, by exposing them to a variety of opportunities and expanding on their skills and knowledge, giving them a secure foundation to grow and love learning.
The Early Years curriculum is made up of 3 prime areas:
- Personal, social and emotional develop
- Communication and Language.
- Physical development.
As well as the 4 specific areas:
- Literacy
- Mathematics
- Understanding the world
- Expressive arts and design
Staff have carefully designed a question based curriculum that is adaptable to meet the needs and interests of our cohort. Children are exposed to highly focussed objectives in a play based approach to learning, allowing them the chance to play and explore, actively learn and create and think critically. By skilfully observing and play partnering, staff are able to adapt teaching and move learn forward successfully by introducing provocations and enhancing the continuous provision.
Impact
At St Anthony’s our Early Years children will demonstrate high levels of engagement in activities, developing their speaking and listening skills, enabling them to access more areas of the learning and communicate to both adults and children. They will have developed concentration, persistence, co-operation and most importantly become willing and confident to ‘have a go’.
Children will develop a wider sense of the world around them and can draw on these experiences during interactions with others and link this to new learning. They will also be able to apply their knowledge to a range of situations making links, by explaining their ideas and understanding. Children are confident to take risks and discuss their successes and failures with adults drawing on their experiences to improve or adjust what they are doing.
From their own starting points, we expect all children, even those at risk of disadvantage, to achieve age related expectation and/or make excellent progress academically and socially to give them the best foundations to prepare them for lifelong learning. We challenge pupils that are gifted and talented and push them to exceed their limits.
